Switzerland

The Final Trip….

Wow I can’t believe the semester has flown buy so fast its time for the last trip. All of my close friends and I from SLU decided to celebrate and go out with a bang for our last trip together in Europe. So, why not get a cabin in the middle of the Swiss Alps?? Our trip started off with a day in Geneva, Switzerland exploring the beautiful city. We checked out the lake and famous Geyser that is second tallest in the world! It’s man-made and serves no purpose but darn it was pretty cool. We more of just wanted to see the city since there aren’t many famous monuments in Geneva.

A lot of walking, some souvenir shops and a cathedral later, it was time to stock up for the weekend. We weren’t sure where the nearest grocery was to our place for the weekend so we hit the grocery in Geneva. We looked like we were headed out for months with how much stuff we had with us, 17 people all with a big bag and add two grocery bags to that.

We took a shuttle service to the cabin about an hour away actually in Saint Gervais les Baines, France. Our home for the weekend! Good thing we got groceries before because it was about an hour walk down the twisty roads down the mountain to the nearest place. Cups of hot cocoa and a fire in the fireplace with some friends was a great way to start of the weekend.

The next day we headed to the slopes!!! Never did I think I would ever be able to go skiing in the Swiss Alps, but hey it happened! We headed out to Mont Blanc, Chamonix Ski resort, rented some skis and snow pants and we were off! Two gondola rides later we were in pure shock at the most amazing view of the snow capped mountains we had ever seen. To say this place was spectacular was an understatement.

It was early in the season so only a couple lifts were open but that just meant more exploring for us; oh and also no easy greens. It was an amazing day on slopes and I couldn’t have been happier by the end of the day. Everyone had a blast and we were all still in shock of what we had just done.

The last day in the mountains was spent making a huge brunch with the crew. We also played a lot of board games like a 3 hour long game of monopoly. My favorite part though was the music, laughs, and sights we had from the balcony of our place. I couldn’t have asked for a better way to end the semester than in the mountains with my friends. We have all gotten so much closer and I’m glad I had some pretty great people to share these memories with.
